Many Chinese begin their day with a warm bowl of congee (粥), Congee is often eaten with fried bread sticks known as youtiao (油条).Congee can be left watery, or can be drained so it has a texture similar to Western oatmeal porridge. Chicken congee is one of deliciously simple Chinese congees, which is congee with shredded chicken meat. It is beneficial for people with week digestion due to a poor diet or illness. Since it is light and easy to digest it is recommended for those too sick to eat solid foods. In this case first strain the cooked congee and serve the liquid. This liquid food can also be used as a supplement for nursing babies.Now I will show you a easy way of making this at home.


  • 250g rice
  • 500g chicken
  • 250g mushroom
  • 50g scallions
  • 30g ginger
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon chicken powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon pepper powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon cooking wine
  • 0.5 teaspoon mustard


Step 1

Prepare rice.

Step 2

Chicken Congee

Clean the chicken and mushroom.

Shred the chicken meat.Combine the cooking wine, salt,pepper powder, mustard, and chicken powder. Add to the chicken and marinate for 1 hour.

Slice the mushroom.

Slice the scallions and ginger.

Place rice in pot and add water.Add sliced ginger and heat until boil.Once boiling, reduce heat to simmer and Add marinated chicken,saltmsugar,chicken powder,sugar.Stir occasionally until rice grains are cooked,add sliced scallions.

Step 7

Chicken Congee

Transfer to a bowl and serve immediately.
